November 27 BUZZ
Happy Monday!
While we bid farewell to November and welcome December we'd like to thank our Glen Allan community for their generous contributions to our 4th Annual Strathcona Food Bank Drive. As you can see in the photos below, we collected a lot of food - 772 pounds in total!! Way to go Glen Allan!
We would also like to thank our Glen Allan School Council for their work on Art Cards. Our GASC volunteers have been working each day to scan artwork, organize orders, and print cards so families will have them in time for the holidays. The time gifted to our school community does not go unnoticed!
Also, a reminder that on Friday report cards will be published to PowerSchool. More information about accessing report cards can be found in the blog post articles below.

ACTION
Report Cards are Coming
Term 1 report cards will be published December 1. On Friday report cards will be available through the PowerSchool Parent Portal—simply log in to your account and click on the “Report Card” button in the left hand sidebar.
The report card marks are reflective of what would be expected of students in their grade at this time of year and is based on curricular outcomes covered to this point in the year.

Counsellor's Corner - Lunch Club Update
Picnic lunches in the counsellor's office have become increasingly popular. Students seem to enjoy the quiet space, small group conversations, and the chance to play games together.
To ensure all students have an opportunity to enjoy a special lunch together, I have created a new club called "Meet and Eat." Student names will be placed in a random draw each week. Those who are chosen will be invited to come for lunch. Depending on my schedule, I am hoping to host these lunches once or twice a week.

Fee Waiver Application Deadline
If circumstances exist where you’re unable to pay school or transportation fees, you can apply to have fees waived by submitting an Application for a Waiver of Fees. The application deadline is Dec. 15, 2023. If you’re new to the Division, the deadline is the latter of Dec. 15, 2023, or 45 days after registration.
To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view your fees and pay them online using Visa, MasterCard or debit card—when available from your financial institution. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted.
Don’t forget to also log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal regularly throughout the year. Fees are often added to your child’s account to cover the cost of various school activities such as field trips, class projects, extracurricular activities and more.

Spread the Word: EIPS is Hiring Substitute Educational Assistants
Do you know someone who may be interested in part-time, flexible work as a substitute educational assistant (EA)? Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is hiring—spread the word!
EAs are integral to the school team, assisting teachers with instructional and non-instructional tasks in the classroom and other school activities. Whether it’s working one-on-one with individual students or with a small group of students in a class or special program, EAs provide support and assistance to help students achieve success.
Substitutes are needed to fill positions at all school locations until the end of the school year. The application deadline is December 8. If you know someone who’d be great in this role, encourage them to apply today.

Alberta Health Services offers free online programming for parents and caregivers of children and youth. Sessions are offered through Zoom. Upcoming topics include parenting strategies for positive mental health and understanding depression. The list of December 2023 sessions is now available.

FIRST NATIONS, MÉTIS, AND INUIT INFORMATION
This week, our students benefited from classroom instruction that included use of our Inuit Edu-Kit, provided by Elk Island Public Schools.
Additionally, our Grade 4 students participated in an art project using dyed fish scales, led by one of our consultants, Cheryl Devin. Please see the photo gallery for some evidence of this wonderful learning opportunity.
Grade 5 students will be engaging in the same fish scale art, this week!
