April 22 BUZZ
Happy Monday & Happy Earth Day!
Today is the first day of the Strathcona County Shoe Drive. We are asking families and staff to bring in any shoes you no longer need to donate to the shoe drive. More information can be blog post article below.
This week is also Administrative Professionals Week. We want to extend much gratitude to Mrs. Delainey and Mrs. Camp who are dedicated to providing our school community with a welcoming, safe, and caring school experience. Whether they are greeting students, answering questions, tracking attendance, ordering school resources, managing school funds, registering students, administering first aid, giving out spoons, forks, bandaids, vaseline, snacks, and the list goes on, we can always count on them to do it with a smile, positivity and kindness. We are lucky to have both Mrs. Delainey and Mrs. Camp at Glen Allan!
It's a great week for a great week!

Strathcona County Earth Day Shoe Drive
Let's see how many pairs of shoes we can collect between Tuesday and Friday?! For each pair of shoes brought in, students will receive an entry for a prize draw. The more shoes we collect, the more prizes will be in our prize pack!
To help us with keeping the shoes organized, please tie them together in pairs, or put an elastic band around the pair.

FIRST NATIONS, MÉTIS, AND INUIT INFORMATION
Grade 5 Blanket Exercise
In 1996, the Aboriginal Rights Coalition worked with Indigenous elders and teachers to develop an interactive way of learning the Indigenous history most Canadians are never taught. The Blanket Exercise was the result; it has since been offered thousands of times and the fourth edition was released in 2016.
How it works
The Blanket Exercise is based on participatory education methodology and the goal is to build understanding about our shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada by walking through pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization and resistance. Everyone is actively involved as they step onto blankets that represent the land, and into the role of First Nations, Inuit and later Métis peoples.

Camp Day
If you didn't know, Mrs. Camp loves making us laugh! A few months ago she left a funny picture of herself on Mrs. Appleby's desk with a reminder to turn our school bells on. We thought it was our turn to make her laugh and declared April 18th "Camp Day!" Many staff were spotted wearing t-shirts with the funny picture Mrs. Camp took of herself. We have fun here at Glen Allan!
