June 20 BUZZ - Happy Summer everyone!

Happy Friday!
This past week was excellent! We held our year end kindergarten celebrations and Lunch on the Land. Additionally, Provincial Achievement Tests were written and many classes went on awesome field trips! Our grade 5 students were recognized for all of their hard work in the DARE program at their DARE grad on Tuesday. Well done grade 5's!
Thank you to all families who joined us today; it was a joy-filled experience to wander the school grounds as families gathered in community to share lunch during our Lunch on the Land Picnic.
We look forward to celebrating our fabulous Grade 6 students during their farewell on Monday afternoon. We wish them all the best as they head to junior high.
We also look forward to seeing our students and families for Meet the Teacher on Wednesday, August 27 from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m., our new playground opening from 4:30 - 6 p.m. the same evening, and to welcoming students back for their first day of school on Thursday, August 28.
Thank you for all your support this school year. Thank you for trusting us with your children every day. We care for each of them, and it is our privilege to teach them. I hope each of our families has a wonderful and safe summer.
Have an amazing weekend and summer!

Class Placements
With one year coming to a close and another goint to begin in the fall, we'd like to share information on how we determine classroom placements.
Our teachers collaborate with the administration and counsellor to develop balanced class lists which consider several factors such as academic needs, behavioural needs, friendship/social groupings, access to support staff, matching personalities and a balance of genders. Teachers create class lists that address these considerations, including ensuring at least one friend for each student. As you can imagine, creating class lists is a complicated task.
It is our goal to create balanced classes that provide an excellent educational experience for each child. We appreciate your trust in our professionalism and our desire to do right by all students while balancing the various needs of each family. It is for that reason that we do not entertain requests for classroom placements. Thank you for your support.

Regulation Strategy - Blossoming Flower
Here at Glen Allan we are aimed at enhancing capacity to nurture emotional resilience and well-being among students. We are actively involved in collaborating with our staff to introduce effective regulation strategies and deepen understandings of brain development. We continue to work on integrating these strategies into everyday classroom practices. This weeks strategy is Blossoming Flower.
With our fingertips touching together from each hand, we begin opening our thumbs, with a deep inhale and then exhale as we continue to breathe, adding our first finger then second finger, and third, and when we come to the pinky, our hands pull apart and we take the
biggest breath as our flowers bloom. As we open each pair of fingers, we can also state an affirmative sentence such as “I am peaceful” “I am strong”, “I am ready”.
