Regulation Strategy - Tree Pose
Here at Glen Allan we are aimed at enhancing capacity to nurture emotional resilience and well-being among students. We are actively involved in collaborating with our staff to introduce effective regulation strategies and deepen understandings of brain development. We continue to work on integrating these strategies into everyday classroom practices. This weeks strategy is Tree Pose.
With one foot firmly planted on the ground, slowly take your opposite leg and move it up the side of our planted leg and foot, taking deep breaths as you balance. Then lift your arms slowly waving them back and forth in a V shape above your head as the wind blows through your branches. Changing positions, move your tree as a tornado passes through. Changing your tree as a gentle rainstorm passes through. What other movements and changes can you create with the weather?
First Nations, Metis and Inuit
- This week our self-identified students made key chains by learning how to bead.
- The May First Nations, Metis and Inuit newsletter is now available.
- Elk Island Public Schools is also excited to be hosting a very profound and powerful exhibit from the Canadian Museum for Human Rights called the Witness Blanket created by master carver Carey Newman. This art installation was created to recognize the atrocities of the residential school era, honour the children and symbolize ongoing reconciliation.
- This exhibit will be housed at the Fort Heritage Precinct from May 22nd to June 26th. The exhibit will be open to the public on Saturday’s at a first come first serve basis.
