Fall is definitely here and with it cooler mornings. Please ensure your children are always prepared for whatever the Alberta weather brings us, classes try to take advantage of opportunities to take their learning outdoors when possible.

ACTION

2025-26 School Fees

School fee information for the 2025-26 school year is now posted on the PowerSchool Parent Portal.

  • All students will have a Noon Supervision fee.
  • All Grade 1-6 students who purchased an agenda from the school will have an agenda fee, those who agreed to purchase their own, will not have an agenda fee.
  • For families who have been with us for a few years, please note that we are returning to the one-time field trip fee this year in alignment with Elk Island Public Schools’ Administrative Procedure. This differs from the last few years when we were charging each individual field trip as they came up.

All fees are due within 30 days of being posted. To access your fee information, simply log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal and go to “Student Fees.” There you can view your fees and pay them online.

NOTE: Don’t forget to also log in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal regularly throughout the year. Fees are often added to your child’s account to cover the cost of various school activities such as field trips, class projects, extracurricular activities fees and more.

Fee Waiver Applications
If you’re unable to pay your school fees, you can apply to have certain fees waived. The application deadline is Dec. 15, 2025. The application form can be found on the public EIPS website.

If you have any questions, please contact the school at 780-467-5519 or you can email Mrs. Delainey at shauna.delainey@eips.ca

Lunches and Snacks

To help keep students energized and ready to learn, we kindly ask that families pack a full lunch with enough food to last the day. While we do our best to support students, the school is not able to provide extra snacks. Thank you for your help in ensuring your child has what they need for a successful day at school.

INFORMATION

Orange Shirt Day

Orange Shirt Day is being recognized at Glen Allan on Monday, September 29. It is a day for remembrance and is an act of reconciliation. Students will be learning that this is not a celebratory or joyous occasion, but rather one where we focus on empathy and understanding. Some of the activities that we will be doing during the week are:

  • orange shirt designs
  • written reflections
  • read alouds of age-appropriate books

If you wish to purchase an Orange Shirt, there are many indigenous owned businesses with meaningful contributions in the Treaty 6 area. One supplier for shirts is the U of A bookstore; the design is created by local Cree artist Jerry Whitehead and the proceeds go back to intergenerational residential school survivors.

The Orange Shirt Society also sells t-shirts and other merchandise.

We encourage you to have conversations with your child(ren) about the meaning behind National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, wearing Orange Shirts, and how to respond to the Calls to Action.

Mental Health Capacity Building

Here is a peek at what has been happening in September with our Mental Health Capacity Builder!

We’ve had a wonderful start to the school year! Students have been learning about resilience and what it means to face challenges and get back up again. Throughout the year, we’ll explore strategies and supports that help build resilience.

We’ve also been focusing on relationships and belonging, with rich discussions on how small acts of kindness at school and in the community help others feel included.

Here is a glimpse of what each grade have has been exploring so far:

Kindergarten - Learned about Scribble spot to build emotional awareness, recognize feelings in their body and face.

Grade 1- Met Otter from the Slumberkins program, who reminded us that love and connection keep us close to our heart family, and that we can always ask for help when we need it.

Grade 2 - Met Narwhal from the Slumberkins programs who taught us about growth mindset. Using positive words, encouragement and perseverance through challenges.

Grade 3 - Met Nola from the Worry woo program, who helped us explore feelings of loneliness and ways to connect with and support others.

Grade 4 - Began learning about respecting ourselves and the actions we can take to care for our mind, body and spirit.

Grade 5 - Discussed values, where they come from, and which ones we choose to prioritize in our lives.

Grade 6 - Tested their knowledge in a family feud- style game focused on healthy relationships.
