August 29 BUZZ

Happy Friday!

What an amazing two days back at school we have had! We will always remember the first day of school and the adventure we had navigating the power outage! After the initial surprise of the lights going out, all students kept on working like nothing happened; well done!

Students and staff are enjoying the playground, as well as the new games and lines on the tarmac, there is so much to do outside!

Thank you to our incredible school council for the Playground Grand Opening Wednesday evening, fun was had by all, even those that had melted!

Student Drop-Off and Pick Up

The north staff parking lot is strictly a drop off loop for parents.

There is no parking permitted in this lot or along the center median between 8:15 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. For safety, when dropping off, ensure your children use the median, supervisors will assist in crossing the parking lot.

If you are planning on walking your child up towards their designated door, please park in the visitor parking across Georgian Way and use the crosswalk.

We really appreciate your cooperation for us to keep the traffic flowing and all the students safe!

Personal Mobile Device Policy

The Government of Alberta has introduced standards (Ministerial Order 014/2024) for the use of personal mobile devices and social media in schools. As part of this, students will not have access to social media platforms on their personal devices or on devices connected to the school’s guest network.

At Glen Allan Elementary, we are committed to creating safe and focused learning environments. Personal mobile devices such as cell phones and smart watches are guided by both Administrative Procedure 145 Use of Personal Communication Devices, and our Glen Allan Elementary School Personal Mobile Device Plan.

We encourage families to review these documents to better understand how we can work together to support positive and distraction-free learning for all students.

EIPS and Glen Allan Personal Mobile Devices Policies

Some important items to note:

1. Students shall not access a PMD at school unless documentation is provided to the Principal or designate that confirms the use is for a diagnosed health or medical condition.

2. Students shall not have access to a PMD during break periods, for example, recess, class breaks and lunch breaks.

3. PMDs are valuable electronic devices. Students bring PMDs to school at their own risk. The Division assumes no responsibility for the safety, security, loss, repair or replacement of PMDs.

4. PMDs brought to school need to be on silent mode, or sport mode (watches).

Students will be unable to receive text messages/phone calls during school hours. If you need to deliver a message, contact the school office directly at 780-467-5519.

Agenda Order Forms - Grades 1-6

The agenda is an extremely important classroom tool in elementary school as it helps with communication between the school and home, and aids students with organization and preparation.

All students in grades 1-6 are required to have an agenda for the 2025-26 school year.

Glen Allan has agendas for families to purchase for the cost of $4.50

We recommend these agendas for student use as they are of high quality, formatted for optimal classroom use, and students having the same agenda provides consistency in the elementary classroom. If students have attended Glen Allan in the past, the agendas are similar to what they received in previous years. If families choose not to purchase an agenda from the school, it will be the responsibility of the family to provide an agenda that has space for daily communication.

Please complete the Agenda Order Form through Permission Click indicating if you will purchase an agenda from Glen Allan or if will purchase one on your own.

Please fill out as soon as possible so your child can receive their copy.

Scent and Allergy Awareness

Glen Allan School is a scent and allergy aware school. To keep our school safe, please avoid sending nuts or nut products as this is a common allergy. Students who bring them may be asked to eat those foods in the office. We also ask that heavy scents not be worn, as they can cause serious reactions for some.

While we can’t guarantee a completely allergen or scent free environment, we do take every reasonable step to support the health and safety of students and staff. Thank you for helping us create a safe and welcoming school for everyone.

Administrative Procedure 319 Allergies and Anaphylaxis

Water Bottles and Cutlery

Just a quick reminder that our school is not able to provide water bottles or cutlery for students. Please help your child come prepared each day by packing a refillable water bottle and any cutlery they may need for their snacks or lunch.

Thank you for your support in helping your child be ready for a great day at school!

Video surveillance at schools and on buses

Did you know each EIPS bus is equipped with video surveillance, and many school sites have video monitoring equipment?

Video surveillance and equipment help:

  • ensure the safety of all students, staff, drivers and property; and
  • discourage destructive acts.

As needed, EIPS school administration and Student Transportation staff review video recordings, in accordance with the Protection of Privacy Act. The recordings assist schools and the Division with monitoring student and driver conduct and may be used as evidence in a disciplinary matter.

For more information about the collection, use and disclosure of personal information, contact the EIPS Privacy Officer at 780-464-3477.
