Good Morning Glen Allan Elementary families, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. Mine was certainly quieter than usual but I am thankful for the gift of time and for the health of my family. Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held on Wednesday, October 21 and Thursday, October 22 from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. for all students in grades 1 - 6. Report Cards will be available on December 4 so there is ample time for students to demonstrate their learning and achieve their goals after interviews. Having parent teacher interviews prior to report cards will give you and your child the opportunity to focus on targeted areas for growth as well as celebrate the successes thus far. Please note, Kindergarten interviews will take place on November 24/25 at which time, teachers can discuss your child’s progress report. Bookings are now open and will close on October 20. Please book your interview at: https://www.schoolbookings.net/code?code+x55aj using the event code: x55aj. Unless you receive instructions to join a virtual meeting, teachers will call the Primary Parent home phone number listed in PowerSchool at your designate time slot. Please note, this will likely come from a blocked number. The time slots are 15 minutes to allow for a 10-minute conversation, with some transition time for teachers to be ready for the next call or virtual meeting. We have several part time teachers who share homerooms so virtual meetings allow them to have the parent/teacher interviews together. Mrs. Ferguson, our school counsellor has interview times available on Thursday, October 22 specifically for her role as counsellor. If you do not have access to a computer, please call us at 780-467-5519 and we would be happy to book a time for you. If you would like to book a phone interview with Mrs. Vicic or me, we are also available. We are hoping that you can join us for our October Glen Allan School Council meeting on Thursday, October 15. We feel confident that we have worked out the technical issues and all you should have to do is click on the link we have set for Thursday through Microsoft Teams. https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19%3ameeting_Mjg3Njg0MTctZDA1Mi00MTRjLWEzMTItZTViM2JiZmZjZWQ0%40thread.v2/0?context=%7b%22Tid%22%3a%229e47afea-5e57-40c3-8443-f2df4a2f4b3f%22%2c%22Oid%22%3a%226058096f-803d-4bb7-b616-81c91c1b8d24%22%7d Once you open the link, select Continue on this browser which will take you to the lobby where you can add your name, click the toggle for mic and video, and finally select join now. All participants wait in the lobby until we add them to the meeting. If you are joining using a mobile device, you will have to download the MicroSoft Teams App. The advantage of this platform is that it should allow anyone to join without restrictions and we can accept participants from the lobby. If you would like a sneak peek at the agenda, please visit our website. https://www.glenallanelementary.ca/sch-council/school-council-agenda2 Coming up next week, we have picture retakes on October 21-22. For our out-of-school learners, you are welcome to book an appointment for a school picture on Thursday, October 22, by calling Mrs. Peichel in the office. When reporting your child’s absence through the attendance button on our website or by voicemail, please remember to leave a reason for the absence so Mrs. Peichel has the necessary information. Thank you for your ongoing support. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us here in in the school office. Sincerely, Judy Anderson Principal

Good Afternoon Glen Allan Elementary families, The staff of Glen Allan Elementary want to thank you for your support as we finish our second week of school. We recognize that there have been challenges and are grateful for your patience and understanding, particularly those families trying to navigate out-of-school learning. I am personally grateful for the commitment the staff have shown to making school safe while focusing on making meaningful connections with students. The month of September will fly by. We are very proud of how quickly students have adjusted to the different ways of doing things and it is wonderful to see them enjoying school while maintaining safety protocols. Typically, we would look forward to meeting parents and families at our Meet the Staff evening. In place of an in-person evening, please watch for a video from your child’s teacher that will be emailed to you on Thursday, September 17. We would also like to welcome and encourage you to join us for our first virtual Glen Allan School Council (GASC) meeting on Thursday, September 17 at 6:30 p.m. The link to join the meeting will be emailed out the day of the meeting to remind you as well. The agenda is posted on our website if you want a sneak peek! If you have not already done so, please complete the Correction and Verification Form through your PowerSchool Parent Portal. Having up-to-date information is important and we ask that you complete the form by September 20, 2020. If you need some assistance, we can help you.
